Maximize Performance -- Minimize Stress
All equestrians strive to find the harmony that exists when horse and
rider are truly moving as a singular, balanced unit. The problem arises when
trying to coordinate two imperfect bodies into a unifying rhythm. Since
nearly all riders, either through symmetry, previous injury, or inclination,
sit off-centered the task of finding and maintaining balance is usually a
continual one. And since few of us have the technical knowledge of anatomy
and kineseology, and extra eyes on the ground to
watch us in motion, the task is also a frustrating one.
Once balanced equitation is achieved, a rider can concentrate on being an
asset to the athlete carrying her rather than a hindrance. Instead of
throwing the horse off his stride with an insecure or improper seat, the
rider can assist in perfecting collection, speed, height, endurance, or
whatever strengths for which your sport calls.
Now, there is a tool that will aid you in finding the balance necessary
for your horse to perform at his best with a minimum of interference. EQUISCAN
is a pressure transducer pad that measures downward pressure on the horse's
back from tack and rider. The software contains a center of gravity program
that identifies rider balance both at static and in motion, performing in any
discipline. The computer graphics show how the rider's seat will affect the
fit of tack and the distribution of weight.

This rider's center of gravity (indicated by the black and white ball) is
shifted heavily to the right, concentrating the majority of pressure to that
side of the saddle. The horse must compensate for this imbalance, interfering
with concentration.
