Clinic Information

We have several different ways in which we can come into an area to do clinics and work with horses. Please read this carefully, and if you have any questions, give me a call. If you need any additional background information on myself or staff, other than what is presented, I will be glad to talk with you about it.

Clinic 1

We will come in and present an educational clinic about saddle fit. It covers the following:

·         Introduction of the Equiscan System-development and application to tack and rider.

·         Manufacturing of English and Western saddle trees.

·         Fitting the tree to the horse. We will use a live horse when we can and place the bare tree on the back of the horse. If we cannot use a live horse, we will use a saddle stand or a fiberglass horse of some kind.

·         Parts and types of saddle trees--English and Western.

·         Types of rigging and their effect on saddle fit.

·         Function of saddle pads in relation to saddle and rider.

·         Effect of rider balance on the horse.

·         Effect of saddle accessories (i.e., saddle bags) on saddle fit and horse function.

·         Horse conformation and balance in relation to saddle fit.

·         Effect of horse condition, and changes of it, on saddle and pad fit.

·         Proper placement and balance of the saddle on the horse.

We will have a question and answer period during the lecture part of the clinic. We also take questions during the lecture itself. Depending on the number of people and the amount of questions, we may need to take a break during this part. After the lecture, we will break, set up the Equiscan System, and do one or two horses showing how the system works and what it tells about saddle/pad fit.

The cost for this clinic is $550.00 plus expenses. This type of Clinic can be done in about 1/2 to 3/4 of a day, depending on the number of people. We will spend as much time as needed to get all questions answered. At this type of Clinic, we will not take any outside horses to do that day. However, we can and will book horses for a later date. If you like, you may charge an attendance fee for anyone attending. (I would suggest a nominal fee to cover your cost.)

Clinic 2

This is essentially the same as Clinic 1 with the exception that we do not charge a speaking fee, and after the clinic, you have set appointments for that afternoon or the next day (at the rate of $65.00 per hour per scan). (Additional $15.00 if the owner wants a copy of the scan.) We would need a minimum number of horses guaranteed with payment in advance. I would charge an attendance fee for the lecture and demonstration part to auditors in the amount of $25.00 per person.

If you are not interested in organizing a clinic, you can book appointments for us. We will come to work on horses like a farrier or veterinarian. We need a guarantee number of horses for the day. In this setting, we will lecture and teach as we work with each horse. The Equiscan System will be used on all horses. Every client/horse will receive color printouts of the scan with notes. The cost for this type is $95.00 per horse. They will also learn options for correcting the problem.

Personnel can be added to the clinic, such as a master saddler from England for reflocking English, hung/jump, dressage saddles, a veterinarian, or other types of horse specialists to participate in the lecture. This is what we call a well-horse clinic.

Occasionally, if we are in the area working or attending a competition, we may put on a free clinic for a nonprofit youth group, such as 4-H, Little Britches Rodeo, or FFA. These kinds of short clinics will sometimes lead to a larger one.

If you are not interested in helping us put on a clinic, but want to attend one, give us a call and we will put you on a list. When, and if, this list gets large enough, I will schedule a clinic in your area.

In organizing a clinic, we need to have a barn or building where we can, of course, have a horse. If not using a live horse, any building with seating will work. We also need to have 110 current for the computer. Restrooms should also be available.

All horse must be manageable, must be able to stand, and not want to walk off with rider on their backs. All horse must have a halter and bridle. All riders must wear a helmet.

If you are interested, please get back to us and set a date.
